Ferment

myopic perhaps
but not by happenstance
one day is just came
never again to leave
my heart filled with fear
I can’t change the way I feel
so I must surrender
and there it remains.

Compositions

As night falls, shadows climb into the light;
the midnight sun giving them a new life.
Pedestrians completely unaware
as the shadows stop and stare
before they inconspicuously disappear.

The air tastes the sweet and salty sounds
of conversations that fall to the ground;
in between the cracks and lines of asphalt,
trampled nightly by a rhythmic assault;
where they started ends up being worlds apart.

Urbanites can’t help be drawn to its sparkle;
wealthy to the destitute the city isn’t impartial.
Determined to reach out for what they’re after
whatever the color, to them it doesn’t matter;
it ends up being their mistress or their master.

A city never sleeps but does take a brief respite
as night dwellers disappear well before the sunlight;
in the depths of the concrete streets the city exhales,
the sound of heels from a different breed takes flight
encapsulating the many different faces of city life.

Drifting

twilight crystals
in blankets of ice
the damp makes me cold
in the white stare of moonlight
exposing my dreams
but they go untold
falling in between the sheets

Solitary Union

Faced with a truth she has to bear
it's the pain of knowing
about a love she thought was growing
realizing all along she was wrong

A love that he thought was sure
comes crashing down at his feet
her animosity just runs too deep
his efforts in vain she can no longer care.

Their happiness lived in fairy tales
outside far from their reality
now seeking shelter from their fears
of a love that never came to be.

A convenience is what this life is
civil and cordial and nothing more
their love more of a cerebral matter
in the end to them that’s all this life is for.

When all alone they both reminisce
to the happiness of their wedding day
and how they held each other so dear;
wondering where their love went amiss.

Quay of Wonder

Stevie the prince wondered,
would she be rescued up on high
from her Castle In The Sky?
For the prince it seemed to be a pity
being caught up Living for the City
but it was a clever barricade
by Sir Duke that kept him delayed.
This had him now in heavy traffic
and though it was Hotter than July
nothing was going to keep the prince down
knowing he was aiming for Higher Ground.
He thought; For Once In My Life
That Girl is going to be my wife.
Meanwhile the princess still waiting
beginning to worry even more thinking
to herself, “I thought I was his Cherie Amour?”
The prince was still making his way
Overjoyed he was getting ever closer;
to him she was no Part Time Lover
in fact “I Was Made To Love Her”
he said, and “her love is what drives me.”
Finally the prince is at his destination
he saw her in her castle way up high
and said out loud “Isn’t She Lovely.”
“Now princess” he said; “don’t be
Uptight (Everything’s Alright)
this castle is none Too High for me.”
“Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing
I’ll be up their as soon as you throw
Your Ribbon In the Sky to me and I’ll
pull myself up and bring you down.”
On the ground the princess sobbed with joy;
the prince then asks the princess for her hand and
she replied “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, (I’m Yours).”
On their wedding day they exchanged vows
both without hesitation said Do I Do.
Now married for years the prince calls
from his job to let her know she’s still loved
singing “I Just Called to Say I Love You.”

What You Need

Paper thin but it catches you by surprise
when you feel the pain and suddenly realize
your bleeding and it won’t stop
that’s what a broken heart is
and your emotions are out of control
the hurt is so deep you can’t be consoled

Just let it bleed
let it bleed
that’s what you need
just let out the pain
let it fall like the rain
Let it fall

When all of your tears have dried
pick yourself up from the inside
cause the pain won’t suddenly stop
and you’ve got to keep moving on
let go of the weight, leave it behind
and put this into the corners of you mind

Just go on
yeah go on
that’s what you need
you’ve got to be strong
stand up tall and believe
just believe

On your own that’s all you need
now you’ve got happiness that’s the key
and nobody’s going to bring you down
you won’t make that mistake again
and if you decide to let someone in

It’s going to be what you need
just what you need
a one way street a love don’t make
from now on it’s give and take
it’s give and take

it’s what you need
that's what you need
what you need…

North Wails

Flooded fluorescent mustard colored walls
surround me and assault my vision daily;
dreams of sunny open spaces always call
memories of happiness I recall are hazy.

Maybe it's the stench of this carpet that stings
to the point of erasing all I recall with fondness;
musky to the point that it drowns all my dreams
encompassing me with all that is darkness.

For half of my day I think I'm in an asylum;
the madness that exists is beyond comprehension,
I try to impose my will but I feel like I'm on an island
and I can't escape because I'm in another dimension.

On a daily basis I serve my time like a prisoner
paying my debt to society trying to be a survivor;
the warden here is oppressive and just sinister
to his methods of punishment I'm not a subscriber.

So I spend my time trying to stay as busy as possible;
at times I get a reprieve by looking out of my window
seeing the snow fall makes my agony almost inaudible;
silently it disappears and I wish I could let this all go.

I hear the outside world and I long to get my time done;
it beckons me as I see glimpses through my peripheral vision
trying to  keep my sanity intact and not come undone;
it’s pull is so strong to the point I hate my situation.

Finally, the audible alarm of my phone signals my freedom,
I unshackle the weight of this daily responsibility
and follow the path home to the one who is my beacon;
greeted by the light that is my love who makes it real to me.
